I just noticed that one of my (former) subscribers has gotten themselves banned from Postloop. The only tangible thing that I lost in this situation was the 3 points I never got for rating him, although a good poster who followed my rules and posted well - a member, if you will - is gone too. I assume it's none of my business, but now that the user will probably never come back it's a bit disappointing. Is it possible to find out what happened?
The one who you are referring to is somebody who has been banned at Postloop before for copying content. He was warned about it twice, but did it a third time after being warned. He then created a second account, which is the one that you see as banned.
What's the ruling on using something you used on one site slightly rejigged either as a thread or a post to another?
Imagine if you were paying for a web design, and the designer simply got a template he'd made for another client, switched around the logo, and sold it you for $500, you're not going to pay for that if you know about it are you? Same premise here.
So if I was to talk about growing tomatoes on one forum site it is not advisable to ever talk about tomatoes again on another forum. What if I'm passionate about tomatoes and wish to share my expertise?
Talking about the same thing is not the same thing as copying a post word from word or copying a post word for word but changing a few words here and there, which seems to be what you suggested.
I've often thought about this issue of how much I can share around. So if you can take another moment. If I was to start a thread on a forum with say a link to a video of politcal nature with a heading and the blurb of what I may think and then go to another forum change the heading slightly use the same link and write another blurb of what I still think about the issue then this is okay. In this case that video will be posted twice as a start to a discussion. Would that video constitute copying content?
This may all sound pedantic but I really would like yours and others views. If it is the link or the video being used twice that is the problem of copied content would you allow different links then. For instance following on the same line, that on two different forums, posts are headed and written differently but instead of using the same link I used two separate links, photos, videos or whatever. Now would this be allowed in your view?
I am kind of confused on what you are saying. Most forums follow a niche and you are supposed to be posting most of your topics related to that niche. If you are posting a lot of the same content on different forums, then you are negating the idea of Postloop. It doesn't matter if it a picture or a video etc.. This means that you are hanging out mostly in the Offtopic portion of forums, and most owners want content that is related to the forum.
I follow forums that I am interested in. A lot of the same theme. These forums have categories in which you can post topics incredibly similar, other than in Offtopic. It could be, post a funny photo or video in one forum. Then in another it may say post a video you have made. Same video two categories. Another example would be herbs. This can be in two forums in two categories and two different photos yet the same topic. Would you allow these examples in two unrelated forums? #1. Same video, different categories? #2. Same story, different heading and different photo? I am passionate about certain topics and I can do a great job. Should I just create mundane uninteresting material so as not to copy content?
Unless someone really wants you to post videos or photos in their off-topic section or whatever, posting videos and photos, and expecting the forum owner to think that's a good post is asking a lot. Honestly, even if you add a bunch of commentary, even if you start the topic, posting a video and saying "Hey, look at this!" is hardly what I'd call "content generation." Copied or not, I don't think it would result in a great rating.
Firstly ratings are thin on the ground. You may rate me. Say for instance I am on two forums. Both have sections where I can post a topic about herbs. Not in any offtopic section.I happened to know about a little known fungal disease that affects garlic. If I was to post this topic on both forums, and to show the effect of the disease on the garlic, I choose photos. I post two separate photos together with different headings and different style of writing but the same information, what would you say this to be. Copying content? If I was two different people, now would this be copying content?
