    • Don't even think about launching until you have at least five threads per category.
    • Don't use your forum software's default theme.
    • Don't misspell your category names.
    • Don't design your logo in Microsoft Paint.
    That is all.

Basic, but provides what a user should be doing before launching their board. I always try to make a few threads/topics in each category before opening. This gives users the chance to actually join in with discussion instead of making their right when you open.

    • Having lots of categories which have nothing to do with the theme of your board.
    Thats one...

I have to say that it's rather annoying that people spell the plural version of software, "softwares."

Other than that, everything you said is a yes-yes (as in I agree with you) in my mind.

that is for people who are making new forums correct?

    I was using "s" possessively.

Saying something like "the software's bug" is fine (ie. posessively). It's just it's gramatically incorrect when someone says, "MyBB is better than the other softwares." Software in plural is software. Likewise, so are deer and Pokémon.

Admins spelling and grammar must be top notch, English people will forgive American spelling of words and vice versa, but mistakes are a no no, they put me right off, I had a co-admin who's spelling was atrocious I used to spend ages correcting his posts.
Firefox has a dictionary plug-in, it's free... so use it.

As for grammar, well that can only be learned from reading books.

Don't make a bunch of rules that aren't needed.

SMF's default theme looks like crap. Though, any premium SMF theme makes the board not look like SMF. :p

Agree with that, I have the standard phpBB rules, and a few "guidelines"

Lol such simple and commen sence advice, but yet I see so many forums with those simple mistake of just mispelling a catorgy, its pretty funny though. Those should be like the four MAIN don'ts that everyone needs to read before they make a forum haha.

You are right...you are not using the plural "softwares" in the post...it is possessive 's' and we should read carefully first before making any wrong comment.

    This isn't always bad right..?
Microsoft Paint isn't the best program to make a logo with but if you are verry skilled with Microsoft Paint than why not use it to make your logo..?

It's bad. :p You would have to be the Picasso of Microsoft Paint before I would say ok to making a logo in MS Paint.
