Planned Obsolescence?

Every few months, whenever Apple releases a new iPhone product and/or a new iOS, I go through the same thoughts.
Should I update my iPhone to the newest operating system?
Does the new phone being out mean that my phone is going to rapidly start breaking down and malfunctioning?

I wanna hear what all of you think. Do you worry about the same things? There's a lot of discussion in technology news, involving Apple in particular but also other companies, regarding whether brands intentionally make their old products obsolete in order to force people to buy the newest products. Planned obsolescence, unfortunately, isn't a new concept either. Things like lightbulbs were once manufactured such that they lasted a very long time, until companies realized that they could give their products a shorter lifespan in order to get people to buy more of them. Are you angry that companies do this, or is it just another fact of life now?
